BALATON-FRIENDLY GARDEN
The gardens around Lake Balaton are connected to the lake's water system and ecosystem, not just along the shoreline. What happens in the garden affects the landscape and, through it, the living system of the lake. The Balaton-Friendly Garden project showcases the principles and practices of conservation-oriented gardening and land management, tailored to different types of land use, with recommendations from experts. Everyone can find a cultivation method that suits their needs, whether they are vacation homeowners or local residents and farmers in the area, whether it's a vegetable garden, vineyard, orchard, or ornamental garden.
The Balaton-Friendly Garden programs explore these topics from both scientific and practical perspectives, through events, pilot areas, videos, publications, posts, and personal consultations. Information about the events is provided on the szabadonbalaton and PAD social media platforms.

KÉKFRANKÓ Brand’ – a special limited-edition organic drink
The KÉKFRANKÓ Brand’ is a limited edition specialty of the Balaton-Friendly Garden project, created in collaboration between BioVitis Winery (led by Barnabás Kovács) and szabadonbalaton. We applied traditional, passive withering (drying) processes (on straw bed, in casks and by hanging the clusters on wires) on Kékfrankos grapes. Then we aged the brand’ distilled from barrel fermented organic Kékfrankos wine on this raisin bed. This process allows every aroma of the grapes to unfold, resulting in the unique color and flavor of this organic distilled wine.
By supporting the Balaton-Friendly Garden project with a donation of 30,000 HUF (80 €) or more, you will receive a bottle of limited edition KÉKFRANKÓ organic distilled wine as a gift. This way, you not only support the initiative and szabadonbalaton, but also contribute to the preservation of the Balaton's ecological system and the maintenance of sustainable landscape management.
For more information on donation options and how to receive the KÉKFRANKÓ, please visit the PAD website.
