SZABADONBALATON ECOLOGICAL ART INTERVENTION AND C:N:P BAR AT GIRO D’ITALIA GRANDE PARTENZA 2022
The wetlands around Lake Balaton form a vast network, with the lake itself at its center. However, this extensive network is increasingly being fragmented by dry, hot areas: human transport infrastructure, roads, car parks and buildings. szabadonbalaton, a partner of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture’s (VEB2023 ECOC) BALATORIUM programme, is organizing an ecological art intervention at important habitats along the Giro d'Italia cycling route on 8 May 2022.
Near Szigliget and Tihany, where roads divide important wetlands, flags will draw attention to the vulnerability of natural habitats. At the finish, visitors will be welcomed by concept drinks at the C:N:P bar of szabadonbalaton. The name of the bar refers to the chemical elements carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus - basic nutrients important for water quality of the lake.
The concept bar will reflect on issues such as the nutrient load of the lake, the role of natural shores, and the relationship of fluctuating water levels with the lake’s water quality and algae content. In addition to the concept drinks of the C:N:P bar, an information brochure on the contribution of bicycle transport to the protection of the lake will be distributed.
